PLATEAU BEECH CAMPGROUND

Public BBQ

A genuinely remote campground in Werrikimbe, reached by four-wheel drive on a track that needs low range after rain and squeezes past fallen trees in places - phone reception drops about 25 kilometres out. What you get for the effort is solitude: most visitors have the place entirely to themselves. The small picnic area has two tables, two fire pits and a hut that makes all-weather cooking possible, which counts for a lot in country this wet. There is a rainwater tank and clean toilets. Wood fired barbecues, so bring firewood. The forest walk is beautiful and easy, leading to cascades and small waterfalls that better some far more advertised falls nearby, and the huge trees are worth the trip alone. Note that you cannot camp under a vehicle awning unless you are in the carpark.
